Floating rubbish dump 'bigger than U.S.' Here is an article about the giant plastic soup polluting the Pacific Ocean. The plastic has broken up into tiny pieces the float just under the water's surface. Because the plastic is mostly translucent and in small pieces it can't be photographed from satellites. It can be seen from the bow of boats and anyone who drags the waters with get a net full o plastic. Yummy! Animals eat it get sick and die, or we catch the fish and the pollutants end up on our plate. Delicious! Did I mention this was discovered in 1997 and is still in existence...? Current Mood: annoyed

April 6th, 200902:57 pm: Vegetarian Tales
So I decided to go vegetarian again. I was a vegetarian for 3-4 years but stopped about 3 years ago. Well, I'm back and ready for meatless action. I decided to try some of the meat substitutes they have a Market Basket and they've got some pretty good stuff. I'm gonna take pictures and give recipes/brands for my favourite meals. I'm not going vegan but I'm trying to cut back on my dairy intake. I loves me some tofu! March 25th, 200909:33 pm: Flat Tire Question....
Okay, so I have a question for you all. This question has plagued me for years. In horror or action movies people always get flat tires. When the bad guy/monster is chasing them, they notice their tire/s are flat and seek an alternative means of escape; usually by way of those things called feet. What I don't understand is why they don't just ride on the rims. I mean, in real life you don't wanna do that 'cause you'll fuck up your car. But if it were me, if I was being chased by, say, an axe-wielding maniac, I'd just risk screwing up my axle/rims if I could get away. Even if it didn't get me too far, it seems like a car would get me further than my feet. So, people, tell me, why don't people just ride on the rims when they're about to die? Current Mood: curious

January 5th, 200909:38 pm: ATTENTION BOSTON AREA STONERS
I'd like to urge anyone in the Boston area to NOT support the store Buried Treasures in Boston, Ma, the one on Haviland Street. My friend and I went there today because he needed screens for his bowl and a grinder. He started looking at a package of "stress relief pills" and was like confused by the ingredients. He likes to look things up before he tries them. He didn't think he could remember the names of the ingredients on the package so I recommended that he take a picture of the back with his camera phone. As soon as he got his phone out the owner started putting away the stuff we were gonna buy. I had picked up a business card and he took it out of my hand and put it back. He than accused us of being reporters. He got very angry and wouldn't believe us when we said we were just college students that like to smoke. He said if we were college students we were studying "journalism." We continued to profess our inocence and he kicked us out. He said, "You can tell the guy at the Globe I said, 'Fuck you.'" One of the things the makes me that madest is not being believed. Its a huge trigger for me. Finally, we were standing outside the shop, I said, "Fine you're loosing buiness." He went back inside the shop. I was like, "Wow, he's a fuckin' asshole." We started to walk away. The guy came bak outside. Unfortunately the guy had heard me even though he was inside the shop. He growled, "Inside is buisness, outside its personal, who called me an asshole?" He got in our faces and kept asking. I didn't own up to calling him an asshole (because I didn't wanna get decked) but I apologized and said that I was sorry, I was just mad. He continued to get in our faces and accused my friend of touching him even though the guy had been walking into my friend with his body and my friend just held his arm up 'cause the guy was right up against him. The other shop owner came out and said, "I knew you guys were gonna be trouble, you were talkin' stupid." and the aggressive guy said, "I think they're fuckin' reporters." We finally managed to get away. Both my friend and I were shaking and I've had anxiety attacks all day thinking about it. I thought I was going to get punch even though I apologized. It pisses me off so much that the guy wouldn't believe us. I'm almost tempted to call the Globe and tell them just out of spite and anger. Oh and these weren't young people either, both shop owners were middle aged guys. Current Mood: FURIOUS Current Music: HSM, 90's Rock

January 4th, 200901:51 pm: Stuff
My computer is broken. It got a virus and won't stay on for more than a few minutes before it completely freezes and I have to shut it off cold. So, as a result I haven't updated for a while. Because I've had little computer access I've been reading more. I finally got around to reading The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet which are a couple of books by Benjamin Hoff and they are sort of an introduction to Taoism using the characters from Winnie the Pooh.. Taoism being a chinese system of beliefs that (from my reading of these books) emphasizes the virtue of humility and encourages "going with the flow" in order to be open to all opportunities. Taoism means "the way" or "path." While I didn't agree with all of the points and beliefs of the books but I did find many things to be interesting, thought provoking, and helpful. I'd recommend them to people interested in Asian belief systems and to those wishing for some insight into life and how to live better. Yesterday I finished, Quirkology: The Curious Science of Everyday Lives by Richard Wiseman. It was a fascinating book. Its all about the psychology involved in everyday stuff. Topics range from the Psychology of deception, what makes us vote for a particular candidate (perceived height and certain facial features played large roles), and the search for the funniest (clean) joke in the world. Its the kind of psychology that I find very interesting. Definitely would recommend it. Oh, you should check out his website. He's got some interesting stuff up. This particular link leads to some interesting videos involving card tricks and magic tricks and the quirky psychology/science behind them. Quirkology: The Color Changing Card TrickI also have been seeing some movies. Yes Man is probably one of Jim Carrey's funniest movies. Really! I was surprised to find that the movie really is hilarious but also contains a great message about living life to the fullest. 5 out of 5 stars, Two thumbs way up, etc. Its based on a book, which I'll be checking out of course. I saw the Curious Case of Benjamin Button staring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, it was awesome. For a three hour movie it went by relatively fast. Great characters and character development, the story was extremely engaging. I would urge anyone to go see it. I found out that this movie too was based on a book. It was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I plan on reading the book even though Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby, one of the few books assigned to me in high school that I couldn't finish because I was bored with it. I hated that book. :-P Oh and I finally saw Serenity, the movie based on the Firefly series, which kicked ass. It was pretty good. Still prefered the series but it was great to see my favourite characters in a new story. I also found out that every year theatres show Serenity and the proceeds go to Joss Whedon's favourite charity, Equality Now which works to stop violence against women and children. I knew I loved Joss for a reason. I plan on going to the show whenever it gets set up this year. Heres the link for the event: Can't Stop the SerenitySpeaking of Joss Whedon, I got Doctor Horrible's Sing-Along Blog on DVD for Christmas. Oh yeah! :-D Anyway, I'll update when I finished my next set of books/movies. I just picked up the last in the Twilight series so I'll write about that soon. Your result for The Fetish Knowledge Test... December 14th, 200801:01 am: Crazy Ice Storm!
So we had a crazy ice storm. Thursday night around 11pm, our power went out. Most people in the state had their power back by noon the next day. We just got ours back about an hour ago (which was Saturday.) I spent a lot of time at Ethan's after work Friday 'cause he had power. So Thursday night/Friday morning all I heard all night was creaking and cracking and booms as trees/tree-limbs fell. The next morning the whole neighborhood was like trashed. Trees down on everything. One limb ripped the telephone line right off our house. Huge branches took out our camper. My great uncle and our next door-neighbor have spent the last couple nights at our house 'cause we have a generator and so heat and some limited power. It feels good to have the internet back. Heres some pictures from the craziness! The Damage Front Yard Back Yard and Camper The Beauty Icekball Net Cute Little Ice Plant America on Ice Current Mood: awake

December 1st, 200804:54 pm: Chickens!
So I heard on NPR about a strange thing that happens sometimes during a tornado. Sometimes a tornado sucks up chickens and spits them back out, alive! This isn't the truly shocking part. These chicken's come out of the tornado...naked! The tornado plucks them and they some how survive the twister and the plucking. Scientists haven't been able to replicate this without leaving the chickens in bite sized pieces. It seems to have disappeared from NPR's website but heres an entry from a Stormwatcher's blog.Naked chickens! I find it amusing....:-P Also, I was listening to some really interesting stories on This American Life on NPR. They were about music lessons, first story was told by David Sedaris about reluctance to take music lessons as a kid, and the second one is one I heard on my way to work. It was an interesting story about being a band geek told by Sarah Vowell. The last one I haven't listen to the whole thing yet, but the parts I have heard are funny and interesting as well. 02:56 am: Song: Fallow
This song really speaks to me lately. The music is beautiful too. Fallow: Go here and its the eighth song down on their play list.
Fallow by Fiction Plane : Sensing that this is a dark day I remember when the sun came again No need to fight the world myself I have victory built into history Cause I have seen better days There will be better days This is a shadow of life lying fallow Despairing can’t find its place here Take a token from the past And you see that nothing lasts Things keep moving on And you ask me Where is home? Well the clouds have fallen ill And if yet more rain is spilled Well I forgive them Wash your fears in purest hope It keeps you cleaner than can soap Just remember that the dirt comes from within your living skin It’s made of everything you eat Keeps you standing on your feet There’s a price to pay But don’t dismay You’ll live Because I have seen better days There will be better days Fearing silence you just might Find yourself awake at night Imagining the things that could go wrong before too long Let the panic slip away Don’t hold too tightly to this day Don’t crush its life out and you’re sure to find the cure Current Mood: blah

Yeah, so Chris and I broke up. We're still friends. Erg, I don't really wanna talk about it past that. I will accept any hugs that are offered. November 28th, 200802:18 am: Tattoo
So I've been thinking about getting a tattoo since I was 17. Six years later and I still haven't gotten one. I've always wanted my first tat to be Harry Potter related. Hp was there for me growing up. It was my escape and my safe blankie. It made me happy, introduced me to really great people like me, and of course its excellently written. I had decided that if after the 7th book I still like HP and wanted the tat, than I would do it. Well, Deathly Hallows came out last year and while I'm not obsessed as when I was younger its still an important symbol of my youth. I decided that the stars from the edge of books would make a good design. Then I wanted it to be more recognizable as HP so I grabbed a lightning bolt. And of course, it needed to be rainbow, 'cause I'm just THAT gay. Heres the very simple/quickly put together design I did in Paint. Still debating black outline vs. no outline, color/angle of the lightning bolt, etc. But heres the general idea. Current Mood: awake
